For the next few days, we’ve decided to spend each entry spotlighting a team, and giving more detailed entries on what they do, the challenges they face, and the steps they take to overcome them. So, without further ado, the build team!
Today, the build team worked on finalizing prototypes for the robot; comparing motor types (small or medium) to try to gauge which one would be more efficient in our prototype, as well as wheel design. We were deciding, in tandem with the business team, whether to use Omni-wheels (less efficient, but also less expensive), or Mechana-wheels (more effective, and more expensive, as we’d have to buy a new chassis). We initially thought the advanages of the mechana wheels were mostly redundant, and not worth the cost, but, after thinking it through, we concluded that it would actually be worth the investment.
Aside from that, we spent the day taking inventory, and discussed whether or not to outfit the lifting mechanism with wheels. Our objective for this week is to figure out exactly what we need for the rest of the build season by next Thursday, at which point we can order the parts while we’re still finishing up the preliminary work for the actual robot. This will allow us to maintain the highest possible efficiency.
