Hello again, we’ve had a busy couple of weeks since the build season started. Build team has assigned roles for each member, and continued strategy for when we’ll be able to use our space in the school. With the school as a whole being reopened (in a limited capacity, but open nonetheless), this prospect looks sooner than ever. In terms of what they plan to be doing when we get there, we plan to refurbish the old robots for testing and begin construction on a new one. A new design will allow us to not have to work with the bulky frame from last year, nor the instabilities from the year before, both of which proved key weaknesses in the competition.
The programming team has finished setting up their Github and has begun to work on ensuring the new members are acquainted with the software. We’re now also researching the code for Mecanum wheels, a potential upgrade over the current Omni wheels we work with. Omni wheels have wheels on the section of the wheel normally occupied by a tire and allow for much easier turns. With Mecanum wheels, these smaller wheels are positioned at an angle and allow a robot to actually move from side to side by turning the wheels against each other. With two robots to test on and an even larger programming force than last year, we fully expect to create code that our team can use for years to come.
Lastly, the business team has been working round the clock to make sure our file organization, social media, and awards are on schedule, a tall order between last year’s administrative nightmare and this 2020’s plethora of complications. We’ve been focused on getting each of our goals done at a regular pace each week, and, through this process, hope to complete each award and weekly update at a constant schedule.
Anyway, that’s about all for this week, thanks again for reading! As always, you can find our Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/frc5902, and our instagram at frc5902. See you next week!
