A Week of Testing! 2/6/23

Welcome back everyone! We hope your weekends were enjoyable, and that you were able to stay warm amidst the record-breaking low temperatures. We’ve been eager to get back to the workshop, and today we hit the ground running with a lot of momentum. We would like to thank Don Delisle and Allison Hoskin for being our mentors today.

Mentor Don gives advice on our robot design to some of the build team

Build Team: This week, the build team has a lot on their plate. As the date of competition grows nearer and nearer, our Build Team has been hard at work to ensure we finish our bot with time to spare for programming and drive testing. They started the week off by assembling the second stage of our arm system. While our multi-stage design is a bit long-winded, it ensures stability and should give us a large advantage during the competition. They also began the finishing touches on our clamp prototype, which has given Programming something else to play with. Finally, they began testing the performance of the previously greased motors and gearboxes.

Programming Team working together on the autonomous code

Programming Team: Today, the programming team is particularly working on automating the charging station and its contribution to the overall game. After we recently built a prototype of the charging station, one which simulates the real environment we will face at the competitions, our Programming Team has taken up the challenge of automating our robot’s ability to balance on the station. This would give us a great advantage during the beginning autonomous period of the game. In this same vein, the team is also working on general autonomous period activities, such as robot pathing using our modified Limelight vision system.

Our Business team hard at work on the award essays (minus our Captain, the camera man!)

Business Team: The deadlines for the Dean’s List and Woodie Flowers awards are this Thursday, and as such, our Business Team has been putting their noses to the grindstone in order to get them done in time. While we may have been able to finish several weeks ago, we really value our words and what these award essays say about us; thus, our editing process takes a long time. Thankfully, with how diligent the team is, we are mostly on time for our deadlines. After these two award essays, we plan on cracking down on the FIRST Impact award. That award’s deadline is a week away, which should give us enough time to finish.

That just about covers it. Thanks for tuning in, and we hope to see you at the end of the week!
