Crunch Time! 2/13/23

Welcome back, I hope you had a great weekend. This week is a week of speed. With our first competition date rapidly approaching, we want to be finished with the robot soon so we have as much time to test as needed. As such, the team is moving very quickly to try and meet their deadlines.

The Build Team works hard on the finishing touches of the robot.

The Build Team: Today, the Build Team mostly is working on finishing the arm mechanism and attaching the clamping mechanism. They want to try and get the robot in the hands of our programmers and drivers ASAP, so they are moving at a much faster pace than before. Along with the arm and clamp, they hope to finish the wiring for the robot in a similar time as well. Wiring was left for last on purpose so that we could make any last second adjustments to the physical form of the robot without having to redo any wiring or general electric work. With these goals in time, they hope to be able to hand the robot off by the end of the week.

The Programming Team prepares to test newly made accelerometer code

The Programming Team: While waiting for access to the robot, the Programming Team has been keeping themselves busy with any improvements that could be made to the automated functions of our bot, mainly balancing on the charging station. As mentioned previously, this is a big undertaking, however accomplishing it will give our team a leg up at the competitions. They decided to try working with a built in accelerometer, seeing if it would allow us to replicate a gyroscope without having to purchase an external one.

Business Captain Dylan Webb organizing the team’s financials

The Business Team: Today, the Business Team is largely focused on the FIRST Impact Award essay and updating its financials. With what we believe to be one of our last purchases, the Business Team wants to ensure our book-keeping has been as organized and accurate as possible. With that in mind, they have been coordinating with our school’s Business Advisor to ensure our expenses and balances are all in line. On the award side of things, the Business Team has been hard at work ensuring that the essay is complete and gives the most accurate and detailed depiction of our team and its accomplishments. The FIRST Impact Award’s deadline is this Thursday, so the team is mostly adding any final touches that are needed to make the essay pop.

Well, that about does it. We appreciate you tuning in, and we’ll see you at the end of the week. Oh, one more thing. We will not have a post for you next Monday, as it is Presidents’ Day and we will not be in session. Goodbye, and stay safe!
