Update 1 – Better than Ever!

Welcome to update 1 of our 2023-24 season, where we’re wiring, building, programming, and… disassembling chariots.

Last Week

Given that we had some spare materials and some people who wanted to learn how to use power tools, we made some small boxes! We cracked wood, went through a copious amount of screws, and decorated using… interesting materials, but we ended up with some cool stuff. And we didn’t break anything!

Dismantling of last years chariots

Our build team is at work disassembling a chariot for a history class, and they’re making quite a racket about it. As I’m writing this, there’s a paper-mache mess on the floor, but I’m sure they’ll clean it up before we’re done.

There’s also another part of the team working on learning how to use our brand new 3D printer! This’ll make producing parts a lot easier. They may be safety-cone orange, but they’re definitely ready to hold up to the competition of making robots compete.

Programming

They’re learning how to use VSCode and Github. Give them a follow if you’re interested in their journey.

So far, there’s just one thing to program. We’re building a roomba that’s going to go throughout the workshop and suck up trash. Our first step is making the robot move, and our second step is making sure it doesn’t collide into walls 24/7.

Business

As someone who was tasked with reworking the entire website, it’s going. It sure is going.

My to-do list involves changing up the theme, making sure that we get up-to-date team photos, and updating all the outdated information on the website. Apparently, it’s been years since someone did a total rework on the website.

While I make changes to the website to better address our performance issues and make the website more “visually appealing,” expect some changes over the next month or so.

If you’re interested in sponsoring our team, check out our sponsorship page! We’re always looking to find people that support what we want to do.
