As the build season begins, the subgroups have all met up to discuss their plans going forward. In the last post, we gave an outline for approximately what we were planning. That said, the teams have had their first meetings this week, and have created concrete, short term plans for how we’re going to run things this year. Once we know what our access to the studio is going to look like, we expect to start posting these with pictures again. Until then, however, we’re off to the races!

The build team spent the meeting discussing the events we’re planning to participate in; in addition to the standard robotics challenge, which we’re almost certainly going to do, we also have a New England exclusive small battle bots challenge, and even a competition designing competition, something which I, personally, have yet to fully wrap my head around. Otherwise, once we’re in the building, we’re going to fix up last year’s robot, make some improvements to the design, and begin work on a new chassis to test on and improve the drive train.

As with last year, the programming team has begun by setting up Github and training new members in the software we’ll be using for the competitions. Once we figure out which competitions we’re going to take on, we’ll have a much better idea of where to focus our efforts in terms of actual coding.

Finally, on the business end, we’ve spent the week regaining our bearings in terms of who to contact, getting a handle on managing the team’s social media, and getting a head start on awards and team paraphernalia. Once we’re in the rhythm of our weekly tasks, keeping up with award deadlines and community service should be a breeze.

Things are, as you might have been able to infer, a little hectic. But we’re regaining our bearings quickly, and soon we fully expect to be up and running again at full capacity. If any of you would like to contact us, feel free to do so at thewireclippers@gmail.com. That should be about it, for now. We hope to start posting a little more regularly once things start picking up, but until then, stay safe, and have an excellent evening.
