Hello all, and welcome back! This week is coming to a pretty strong close, and the whole team is very happy with where we are at currently. With the competition being only three weeks away, we’re all working very hard to achieve our goals so we can perform at our complete best for the first competition!
The Build Team: Today was a day of adapting for everyone. The Build Team realized that there were some screws incorrectly attached to part of our bot’s arm. They started out the day by forming up and showing what went wrong, how to avoid similar problems, and what exactly they were going to do to fix it. From there, they got right to work, and despite this small setback, the Build Team is moving at a strong pace. They plan on giving the robot over to programming in the next week or so, which should give them ample time to code and recode where necessary. In the meantime, the Build Team hopes to make improvements where possible to the current bot.
The Programming Team: This week has been a bit of an adventure for Programming. At first, we began to attempt to recode a very old controller we had, so we could have a few different choices when it came to controlling the robot. It started really well, and we quickly got it working. However, eventually, when merging the new code with the old code, a few errors popped up, and before we knew it, not even our old code worked! While it was initially worrying, our Programming Captain Adam Hoskin quickly got to work on the situation and solved it with relatively little trouble. Thanks to him, our Programming Team is back on track to be prepared for when the real bot is fully complete. In the meantime, we are practicing driving with this new control scheme.
The Business Team: This week closed out some of the big-ticket items that the Business Team had to take care of, mainly the Dean’s List and Woodie Flowers. The writing aspects of both awards were complete by the deadline; however, the website began to fail to load on our end several times. This caused some panic among the team, however, we quickly adapted to the situation and did what we could to mend the situation. With those awards out of the way, the Business Team is mostly planning on finishing up the FIRST Impact Award Essay, which is due next week, as well as the FIRST Impact Award video, which is due around the time of the first competition, and must be brought on a flash drive to said competition.
That just about does it for today’s news. We hope to see you again on Monday! Stay safe!
